vivo V40 Lite Review Article: The Affordable Durable Smartphone with up to 4 Years Battery Health!

The vivo V40 Series has added a brand new addition to their catalogue of smartphone devices with the brand new vivo V40 Lite, a smartphone that comes with incredible performances matched with a stunning design. In this review article, I will be taking a deeper look into the vivo V40 Lite, discussing its design, display, camera features and performance in order to determine how effective this smartphone is.

Design

The vivo V40 comes in three colour variants, the Dynamic Black, the Dreamy Violet and the Titanium Silver, each with their respective charms and appeal. The Titanium Silver variant was the model that I received and I was impressed with its Diamond Starry Texture design and colour which was inspired by titanium. The V40 Lite comes in a sleek design meant for easier portability and convenience and comes with dimensions of 163.2 x 75.9 x 7.95mm while also weighing at 190g complementing its lightweight design.

While it has a slim design, the durability of the phone should not be underestimated as numerous tests have been conducted in order to prove the device’s strong durability. Such tests included a micro drop test which was conducted around 32,000 times and running the device around extreme temperatures from around -20°C  to 50°C. Asides from that, the vivo V40 Lite also comes with IP64 Dust and Water Resistance which ensures that dust and water sprays from entering the device. In addition to this, the phone also comes with Wet Touch Technology, meaning that even if your hand is wet, the phone will be able to respond to your touch.

Overall, I feel that the phone’s design has impressed me, not just with its sleek appearance, but also with how lightweight it is, ensuring that you’ll be able to comfortably carry the device in your hand or pockets.

Display

The vivo V40 Lite features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 accompanied with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring that you’ll be able to get crisp and high-quality when you’re watching videos on your device or even gaming. Furthermore, with a local peak brightness of 1800 nits, you’ll be able to view your screen even under bright sunlight, so you don’t have to worry about watching shows or reading even while you’re outdoors.

The V40 Lite is also certified by SGS for its Eye Care Display which ensures that your eyes will be comfortable even when using it for prolonged periods. However, one flaw that I found for the device’s screen would be the fact that fingerprint marks easily appear on the screen and seeing as users will need to swipe through the screen, this also shows that the fingerprint marks will be ever present on your device and will need to wipe it often.

Camera

The vivo V40 Lite comes with a Main Camera of 50MP JNS AF lens, which will ensure that you’ll be able to snap well-detailed and clear pictures wherever you are.

It also comes with a front camera of 32MP, and if you’re a fan of taking selfies, then this is definitely something that you can consider, especially with the Beauty Mode feature added to enhance your photos.

Asides from that, the V40 Lite also comes with an 8MP 120° Ultra Wide Angle which will allow users to be able to capture group pictures or even wide landscapes easier, further enhancing the photography experience.

The V40 Lite also comes with the signature AI Aura Light Portrait, which allows users to be able to easily capture stunning portraits even under low light situations. The Aura Light provides a more even and softer lighting compared  to a regular flash. It comes with 45 different colour temperature levels that can be adjusted for various situations. Through the use of AI, it automatically adjusts the colour temperature in order to capture the best lighting while snapping pictures in low-light situations.

Asides from its camera features, the vivo V40 Lite also comes with additional AI features in order to improve your images even after taking them. One example of this would be the AI Eraser feature. I’m certain that everyone has experienced a situation where a perfectly good picture was ruined when someone randomly walks into the frame of the picture. Well, with the AI Eraser feature, you’ll be able to erase unwanted people or objects from the picture that you have just taken and remove them from the image and when removing them, AI will also perfectly restore the background.

Meanwhile, the other AI feature would be the AI Photo Enhance. Have an old photo from your past that’s low in quality? Well, with this feature, you’ll be able enhance the image as the AI will automatically locate the face of the portrait and enhance them to make it look more natural. With this new feature, you’ll be able to enhance your old photos and make them feel brand new.

Performance

The vivo V40 Lite is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon® 4 Gen 2 which ensures that you’ll be able to carry out various tasks smoothly, whether it’s gaming or scrolling through social media. It comes with 12GB RAM, and allows for another 12GB of Extended RAM expansion, and this allows the device to run more software smoother. It also comes with RAM Saver technology to help reduce operating burden by compressing app size to free up memory space. With more apps allowed to be kept active in the background, the App Retainer is here to help guarantee a more seamless multitasking experience by restoring the app to the last interface on the screen.

In terms of storage space, the vivo V40 Lite comes in both a 256GB and 512GB variant, both of which are more than sufficient for daily usage scenarios and if you have files to store. The device also allows for another 2 TB of expandable storage. Furthermore, with the storage compression feature, it helps to compress application data and merge duplicate files to free up more space, and this helps to address performance issues caused by long term use of maximum storage capacity. All these RAM and ROM features assist in maintaining the V40 Lite with 4 years of smooth OS experience.

While the V40 Lite does not come with the best chipset, you’ll still be able to enjoy gaming on this device. In order to test out its gaming capabilities, I used the battle-royale game, Free Fire. When playing the game, I realised that the game was able to run smoothly and without much issues. Furthermore, when turning on BOOST mode, the game is able to be played at the highest graphic settings, and still, there weren't many issues such as lag even over a prolonged period.

Battery

The battery capacity for the vivo V40 Lite is one of the main highlights for the device, especially for its price, as it comes with a 5000mAh battery life, which ensures that users will be able to use their phone throughout the day without worrying about the phone’s battery running out.

In addition to this, vivo also studied the average charging habits of users and ensured that the V40 Lite battery is capable of lasting up to 4-years of usage, which is approximately 1600 charging cycles.

To test out the phone’s battery life, I decided to watch YouTube videos at 1080p for a whole hour, and impressively only 3% of the battery was drained during that time even while playing the video at average volume.

Besides that, I also conducted an hour long gaming session on Free Fire with BOOST mode on and while the game was also on its highest settings. Similarly, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that only 13% of the battery was consumed.

The V40 Lite also comes with a 80W FlashCharge fast charging technology which fully complements the long-lasting battery of the phone, and with this, you’ll be able to use your phone for prolonged periods again after just charging it. In just 5 minutes, the phone was able to charge up to 14% and in 15 minutes, the phone was able to charge up to 38%. In total, it only took 48 minutes for the phone to recharge back to 100% which is really incredible, which was 4 minutes off from its expected 44 minutes from the official data.

Furthermore, the V40 Lite also comes with a Smart Charging Engine 2.0 which ensures that the device will be able to have a long-lasting battery life. When enabling “Optimised Battery Charging”, the system will intelligently adjust the time needed to fully charge the device according to your charging habits and this helps to extend the battery life. Furthermore, it also comes with an overnight charging protection which studies the user’s sleep patterns and stops charging until reaching 80% before resuming before the user is about to wake up. These added features help to provide the V40 Lite with a 4-year Battery Health, and you can be rest assured that after 4 years of use, your battery capacity would still be safely above 80%.

Verdict

In conclusion, the vivo V40 Lite is the best entry smartphone with incredible durability with its IP64 Dust and Water resistance, it also comes with an incredible 5000mAh battery life and up to 4 year usage, accompanied by an 80W FlashCharge which is the fastest charging compared to other brands around the same price range. It also comes with many amazing features such as an AMOLED display and AI Aura Light that would benefit users. Whether you’re looking for an affordable phone or one that’s able to last a long time, the vivo V40 Lite is definitely a phone worth getting, especially with its affordable price starting from RM1,299.
