Writer: Christopher ChuahChristopher Chuah

Samsung has recently launched a latest addition to their Galaxy A Series, the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G. Boasting a sleek design as well as integrating several advanced AI features to heighten user experience, this new mid-range device truly stands out compared to the rest of its competitors. In this review article, we’ll take a deep dive into the new Galaxy A56 5G, and discuss the phone’s design, display, camera, AI features, performance as well as battery life in order to showcase why you should consider this mid-ranged device.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G boasts a premium design which blends together modern aesthetics with durability. The device has a thickness of 7.4mm and weighs at 198g and this is showcased in its sleek and lightweight build; and this makes the Galaxy A56 5G more comfortable to hold.

Furthermore, the Galaxy A56 5G is also durable as it comes with a refined aluminium frame that is paired with the Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus®+, this ensures that device has a greater scratch and drop resistance. Another point to note about the phone’s durability is that it has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance to ensure that the device would be safe from dirt and splashes.

One notable difference between the Galaxy A56 5G and its predecessors would be that the phone now comes with a new linear camera design which helps complement the seamless and sleek design that the phone showcases.

To top it all off, the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G offers a wide range of colour options for consumers to choose from: Awesome Graphite, Awesome Lightgray, Awesome Olive, and Awesome Pink. Not only do these colour options have a modern feel to them, but they also allow users to choose a style which best suits their taste.

Display

The Galaxy A56 5G features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which provides you with a high-quality visual experience. The device also comes with a 1200 nits Vision Booster at High Brightness Mode, which is an improvement to its predecessor, the Galaxy A55 5G, which only had a HBM at 1000 nits. WIth this improvement, it would allow users to be able to have a greater viewing experience at any lighting. In addition, the display for the Galaxy A56 5G also comes with an Eye Care Display Certification.

Camera

The Galaxy A56 5G comes with a 50MP primary lens that is paired together with a 12MP ultra wide angle lens and a 5MP macro lens. Though one improvement that was made to the cameras for the Galaxy A56 5G would be its front camera, as it comes with a 12MP selfie camera, in order to capture amazing selfies.

The picture quality for the device is impressive as you will be able to see sharper details and vibrant colours across various lighting conditions.

In addition to this, the Galaxy A56 5G also excels in Nightography shots as its camera has been improved which allows it to have greater light absorption capabilities, and this allows the device to be able to capture stunning images even in low-light environments.

Hardware

The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G is powered by the Samsung Exynos 1580, an Octa-core processor which ensures that you’ll be able to get powerful performances on your device. Furthermore it also features a boosted cooling system which will allow you to be able to easily multitask and play games more efficiently than ever.

When it comes to the phone’s memory, the Galaxy A56 5G comes with a total of 12GB RAM which ensures smooth performances across the device, as well as up to 256GB of storage space which is essential for those who wish to download large game files.

In addition to this, the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G is also a device that was built to last, as it is able to support up to six generations of OS upgrades as well as up to 6 years of security updates in order to ensure that the device would be able to continue running. With this, you’ll not need to worry about getting a brand new phone anytime soon.

AI Features

The Galaxy A56 5G offers a wide range of features that will both benefit and assist the users in their everyday lives. Not only do they include the previous AI features that the Galaxy A55 5G provides, but it also offers several new features that will enhance your user experience. These new features include, Auto Trim, Best Face, AI Select and Read Aloud.

Circle to Search

Similarly like its predecessor, the Galaxy A56 5G also comes with the Circle to Search feature as well, and with the help of this feature, users will easily be able to search up and get instant results on the thing that they have circled on their screens, whether it’s a product, landmarks or even texts.

Auto Trim

With the Auto Trim feature, users will be able to easily edit their footage as AI will automatically detect and remove any unnecessary segments from the video and only keep the most relevant content. With this, users will not have to manually edit their own videos and still be able to get great videos.

Best Face

Another method in which the Galaxy A56 5G utilises AI would be in photo editing with the Best Face feature. With this feature, you’ll be able to snap pictures and capture the best facial expressions after several pictures. With this, both you and your friends will never have to worry about any bad photos again.

AI Select

The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G also introduces the new AI Select, which is an evolution of the previous Smart Select feature. With this upgrade, it helps to enhance the user experience as the AI will be able to provide more actions based on the screen. For example, you will be able to easily select the texts on a photo, easily generate GIFs from videos and even create wallpapers directly using a photo from the screen.

Battery

The Galaxy A56 5G comes equipped with an impressive 5000mAh battery life, and with this, you’d be able to last the entire day without worrying about the battery life, even after carrying out basic tasks such as scrolling through social media and watching YouTube videos. In fact, the Galaxy A56 5G is able to last up to 29 hours of video playback.

Thus, I decided to test out the battery life for this device by playing a game that is set to the highest graphic settings while also watching YouTube videos at high quality. The game that I have chosen for the test is Wuthering Waves, a game that is well-known for being battery draining on mobile devices.

Wuthering Waves

While playing Wuthering Waves, a total of 11% of the battery was consumed while playing the game, and this is with the game set to the High Resolution and while the game was running at 60 FPS.

Moving aside from gaming, I also decided to test out the battery life by watching YouTube videos at 2140p and at max volume for an hour. The results showed that the phone’s battery life only drained down to 6% after the hour was up.

The Galaxy A56 5G also supports 45W Super Fast Charging, and this is a slight improvement compared to the 25W for the Galaxy A55 5G, though I would still consider this to be on the slower side compared to other devices.

As the Galaxy A56 5G does not come with its own adapter, I had to use my own charger, which unfortunately was a 25W charger, although it was able to trigger the Fast Charging with it. When testing out the charging speed for the Galaxy A56 5G, the device was able to be fully charged in only 83 minutes, even with an adapter at lower power.

Verdict

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G is able to showcase its capabilities as a mid-ranged device with its various features that will assist its users in their everyday life. Not only does the device have an impressive performance, it also has strong durability which ensures that the device is more resistant to accidents on a daily basis. Priced at RM1,999, the Galaxy A56 5G truly showcases why it stands out over the rest of its competitors. Thus, you can be assured that this mid-range device would be worth considering if you’re looking to get a new device.
