Today, min min will review two new members of the ASUS Zenbook series, which are the Zenbook 14X OLED and Zenbook 14 Flip OLED. Clearly, both laptops are ideal for professionals and students judging by their design and specs. Therefore, my task here is to help you find out which laptop is suitable for you the most!

The ASUS Zenbook 14 Flip OLED is a more "flexible" variant of the Zenbook 14X OLED. It features a 360° ErgoLift hinge allowing it to transform from a business laptop to a business tablet. Not only that, but the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED comes with a tough and less reflective Corning Gorilla Glass NBT for this touch-enabled laptop.

The Zenbook 14 Flip OLED is one of its lightweight convertible laptops you couldn't get elsewhere aside from ASUS. The laptop lit is covered with a brushed texture material with some thin stripes across the surface, making the laptop look stylish and sophisticated.

The Zenbook 14 Flip OLED is available in two color choices which are Foggy Silver and Ponder Blue; whilst the Zenbook 14X OLED is available in Sandstone Beige and Inkwell Gray. In fact, the Sandstone Beige color is coated with plasma ceramic aluminum finishes thanks to a special process only available from ASUS.

As for the connectivity, the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED and Zenbook 14X OLED also consists of two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a 3.5 mm audio combo jack.

The Zenbook 14 Flip OLED and Zenbook 14X OLED comes with a usual full-size ASUS ErgoSense keyboard and touchpad. It also sports a handy feature under the touchpad which is the ASUS NumberPad 2.0. This feature turns your touchpad into a "virtual-like" NumPad just when you need them!

Of course, the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED can be flipped 360° thanks to its 360° ErgoLift hinge design. This is something that the Zenbook 14X OLED could not achieve as it only lay flat at 180° at maximum.

The Zenbook 14 Flip OLED comes with a 14-inch 2.8K 90Hz OLED slim-bezel NanoEdge touchscreen display. It also provides an 86% screen-to-body with an expansive 16:10 aspect ratio to offer a larger visual workspace for users.

Besides, the Zenbook 14X OLED comes with a slightly bigger 14.5-inch, 2.8-K OLED display and a 120Hz faster refresh rate than the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED. It also sports a maximum of 600 nits peak brightness compared to 550 nits peak brightness on the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED.

The best part of having an OLED laptop display is that it can deliver the best visual experience possible to users. Especially both displays on the Zenbook 14 series are also PANTONE Validated and 100% DCI-P3 gamut. OLED laptops also emit 70% less blue light than an LCD panel to protect the user's eye from discomfort while delivering better color performance.

As you can see in the sets of pictures above, the display on the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED & Zenbook 14X OLED are emitting softer lights compared to the older model of the ASUS Zenbook laptop; which keeps your eyesight healthy by reducing the harmful blue light that came contact while looking at the screen.

As mentioned before, the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED is the more "flexible" variant of the Zenbook 14X OLED. This is because it can be flipped 360° and turned into tablet mode to tackle any work with style along the ASUS Pen 2.0 Stylus or just your fingertip.

Aside from that, the display also supports the included ASUS Pen 2.0 stylus that offers 4096 pressure levels with four interchangeable tips to mimic different pencil hardness. To add, it also supports USB-C charging and Bluetooth shortcuts that can be customized for a dedicated button.

Benchmark

For benchmarking, we will be using the Cinebench R15, R20, PC Mark 10, CPU Profile, CrystalDiskMark, and AS SSD to test the overall performance of Zenbook 14 Flip OLED & Zenbook 14X OLED when it comes to light & documentation works.

Cinebench R15

The Cinebench R15's job is to test the processing power of the processor's capability for rendering a 3D scene. As you can see, the score for the Intel Core i5-1340P is 1635; and 2314 for Intel Core i7-13700H. There’s no doubt that the i7-13700H performs better than the i5-1340P with its cores & threads advantage.

Cinebench R20

Next, we will use the Cinebench R20 to test if the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED and Zenbook 14X OLED can handle a high-CPU load task. As a result, the Intel Core i5-1340P scores a total of 3252; and 5751 for Intel Core i7-13700H.

PC Mark 10

Again, the PC Mark 10 is a "must" benchmark test for productivity or content creation laptops like the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED & Zenbook 14X OLED. You may refer to the results below:

CrystalDiskMark

The SSD read and write speeds are very important for a productivity-focused laptop. Thus, we will use the CrystalDiskMark to measure the performance of the SSD to see if it passes the "speed test". Clearly, the 14X OLED model appears to have a faster write speed whilst the 14 Flip OLED is faster in read speed.

Buy or no buy?

If you need a more convenient laptop, definitely, you must pick up the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED for many reasons like doing light work or designing (drawing). Most importantly, it also comes with an OLED display, meaning that you can flip into tablet mode and use it for entertainment purposes.

However, if you're a more heavy performance-demanding user, the Zenbook 14X OLED is the one you need since it comes with an Intel Core i7-13700H processor.

What's more, you can get a laptop built for productivity starting from RM5499 which sounds like a bargain to me. Given its compact and lightweight 1.5kg chassis, there's no problem bringing along the laptop traveling.
