OPPO A77s

Price: RM999

What makes a phone good? Its capabilities to take awesome pictures or its performance? How about we take those all into consideration and talk about the price point? Here is a mid-range phone in the all-new OPPO A Series - The OPPO A77s.

Design

Upon initial reaction, I personally feel that the OPPO A77s look pretty similar to the OPPO A77 5G and I guess it’s because OPPO kept the same design language as it is still a part of its A series.

The OPPO A77s are available in two colors: Starry Black and Sky Blue, my review unit being the latter. This particular color paired with the OPPO Glow Design makes for a somewhat visually appealing design. Under lighting, it gives off a somewhat pink iridescent hue despite having a matte finish.

The camera looks the same as its predecessor, the flash, however, did change. The flash now comes in a pill design compared to the dual flash it used to come with OPPO’s effort to provide a cleaner look.

The OPPO A77s come with IPX4 water resistance and IP5X dust resistance which I personally find great since I am one clumsy human.

Display

The screen comes with a 6.56” HD+ Display coupled with a 90Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of up to 180Hz, allowing me to have a decently smooth experience.

In my opinion, for a phone in this price range, the screen is fairly smooth and works well with no input lag.

Audio-wise, the phone comes with a dual-speaker design that is located on the top and on the bottom of the phone. The OPPO A77s also comes with an Ultra volume mode that allows you to listen to audio despite being in a noisy environment.

After using the Ultra volume mode, I must say that the audio output is rather impressive because it is loud, but since it’s loud, a few things were compromised like base and clarity.

Camera

In terms of camera, the OPPO A77s comes with a dual-camera setup that consists of a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth camera. To test the capabilities of the camera, I brought the phone with me to my shoot to see how the camera would perform in a different setting.

In the studio with good lighting, the camera managed to capture me without making me look washed out, the colors also remained clear and vibrant.

I also tried the Bokeh Flare Portrait to see if it lives up to my expectations. The photo came out pretty well as it masked the background but not my hair or my hands.

The front camera features an 8MP camera. To see if the front camera is good enough to suffice for my selfies, I used the Selfie HDR mode which is said to produce clear selfies even in environments with poor lighting.

The selfie I took looked rather different from how I looked like in real life as it looked quite filtered. I am personally not a fan but I know people who actually like this kind of camera feature.

Performance

The OPPO A77s comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor, along with 8GB of onboard RAM, and 128GB of storage. This phone also allows its users to borrow up to 5GB of unused storage and turn it into extended RAM.

Personally, I don’t see the need of extending my RAM further as the 8GB of RAM should suffice for my needs. However, if one plans on gaming and needs every last bit of strength, this should be a notable feature.

In terms of performance, this phone works well for scrolling through social media and super light gaming as the phone does end up becoming warm after an hour and a half of playing Mobile Legends.

The phone comes with a 5000mAh battery and a 33W SuperVooc Charger. What’s a review if I don’t try out the battery life? I started playing Mobile Legends at 11:15 AM with a battery life of 54%, an hour later the battery was at 44%. For a 10% drop, the battery can pretty much last you all day given that you skip out on gaming but go for social media usage instead.

Buy or no buy?

For a phone with this price, I certainly think that this is a great add-on if you are looking for a new phone that doesn’t break the bank. It is good enough for your daily selfies and social media usage.

Customers who avail of the OPPO A77s are eligible to get a free Y.O.U beauty travel kit worth RM99 *Promotion while stocks last*.
