realme GT 7 Pro: Malaysia’s First Snapdragon 8 Elite Smartphone

The realme GT 7 Pro has arrived in Malaysia as the first smartphone equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, bringing groundbreaking performance, a Mars-inspired design, and a suite of features that set a new benchmark for Android devices. With each specification meticulously crafted, realme aims to cater to tech enthusiasts and power users alike. Let’s dive into what makes the realme GT 7 Pro a compelling choice for Malaysian users.

Design

The realme GT 7 Pro introduces an innovative Mars-inspired design—Mars Orange, paying tribute to the exploration of the red planet. This Mars aesthetic gives the phone a unique and almost futuristic look, making it stand out from conventional smartphone designs. Holding the GT 7 Pro feels like experiencing a blend of high-tech innovation with an artistic flair, and this commitment to detail is clear throughout its exterior.

With dimensions of 162.45 x 76.89 x 8.55 mm and weighing in at 222.8g, the device is substantial yet well-balanced, providing a premium feel without being overly bulky. The phone's aluminium middle frame, crafted from aircraft-grade materials, ensures durability while maintaining a sleek profile. The quad-curved display design is not only stunning but ergonomically designed, offering a comfortable grip with minimised accidental touches.

Performance

At the core of the realme GT 7 Pro is the Snapdragon® 8 Elite chipset, currently Qualcomm's most powerful SoC built using TSMC’s 3nm process technology. This chipset introduces the Oryon CPU architecture, featuring two high-performance cores clocked at 4.32 GHz and six efficiency cores at 3.53 GHz. This 8-core configuration ensures top-tier single-core and multi-core performance, while maintaining efficiency and reducing power consumption, and benchmark results further back this up.

The GT 7 Pro shines with an impressive Antutu score of 2,831,960, marking it as the top-performing Android device on the market. Backed by the Adreno 830 GPU and new Hexagon NPU, it delivers not only a smooth and immersive gaming experience but also intelligently optimised performance that adapts seamlessly to different AI-related tasks. In my own tests with 3DMark, the GT 7 Pro topped scores across all current flagship smartphones, showing performance that’s even comparable to some laptops. Whether it’s intense gaming, heavy multitasking, or rendering high-definition video, the GT 7 Pro handles it all with ease, consistently proving its power and versatility.

In actual gaming tests, the GT 7 Pro truly reflects its 3DMark scores. I played Honor of Kings and PUBG at the highest graphics and FPS settings, and the phone easily maintained a steady 120 FPS on both games. The gameplay was exceptionally smooth, with no noticeable frame drops or lag, even during intense battle scenes. The graphics looked vibrant and detailed, enhancing the immersion, while the high FPS kept every movement crisp and responsive. This performance showcases the GT 7 Pro’s capability to handle resource-intensive games effortlessly, making it a perfect choice for mobile gaming enthusiasts who crave top-tier visuals and fluidity.

The GT 7 Pro also impresses with its robust memory and storage, featuring 16GB of RAM and a large storage capacity of 512GB. The RAM allows for another 12GB of dynamic expansion and with this generous setting, multitasking becomes even more effortless, allowing you to switch between multiple demanding apps smoothly without lag. The advanced storage speeds up app loading times and data transfers, so you can access your photos, videos, or games quickly, perfect for those who use their phones for demanding tasks like gaming or video editing. This combination of memory and storage ensures that the GT 7 Pro remains responsive and dependable, even with heavy daily use.

Display

The 6.78-inch RealWorld Eco² OLED display, co-developed with Samsung, is one of the highlights of the realme GT 7 Pro. This industry leading display technology is previously available only on Samsung’s foldables, which marks a milestone on realme’s effort in striving for the best visual experience for users. It supports an astonishing 120% DCI-P3 colour gamut, producing rich and vibrant colours that bring visuals to life. With a peak brightness of 6500 nits and HBM (High Brightness Mode) at 2000 nits, the display remains highly visible even under direct sunlight, making it perfect for outdoor use. The panel's 8T LTPO technology allows for dynamic refresh rate adjustments up to 120Hz, ensuring a smooth user experience while conserving battery power.

This Eco² OLED display is optimised for both colour accuracy and eye comfort, with DC dimming that reduces flicker, minimising eye strain during extended usage. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support further enhance the viewing experience, making the GT 7 Pro an excellent device for streaming, gaming, and general media consumption. The quad-curved display design not only adds to the device’s aesthetics but also provides an immersive viewing experience, making every swipe and scroll feel seamless.

Battery

Battery life is another area where the GT 7 Pro excels. Equipped with a 6500mAh Titan battery, the largest of its kind, this phone delivers exceptional longevity. It utilises the Next-Generation Silicon-Carbon Anode Battery technology to give the battery a longer battery life while maintaining a sleek profile. Additionally, the battery has a low-temperature resistance feature, ensuring reliable performance even in colder conditions.

According to realme’s lab tests, the GT 7 Pro’s battery can last up to 20 hours of YouTube streaming or 10.7 hours of gaming—a claim that holds up well in real-world use. In my own testing, a 4-hour session including 2.5 hours of intense gaming and photo shooting in between consumed about 46% of the battery, demonstrating its impressive stamina. Throughout the gaming session, the GT 7 Pro stayed comfortably cool, maintaining a temperature of around 38°C, thanks to its 11,480mm² Iceberg VC Cooling System, the largest in its segment.

Charging is equally impressive with the 120W SuperVOOC charging technology. In just 37 minutes, the GT 7 Pro can go from 0% to a full charge, aligning well with realme’s official lab test data. The smart rapid charging feature detects when a quick top-up is needed, boosting charging speed accordingly. Paired with an efficient battery management system, this feature makes the GT 7 Pro one of the most reliable smartphones for heavy users, providing all-day power without extended charging downtime.

Camera

The GT 7 Pro features a triple-camera setup with a 50MP main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera.

The 50MP Sony IMX906 primary sensor, combined with optical image stabilisation (OIS), captures stunningly detailed shots with vivid colours under various lighting conditions.

Complementing this is a powerful 50MP IMX882 periscope telephoto lens, which adds substantial versatility to the GT 7 Pro's photography setup. With a 3x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom, this lens captures distant subjects in sharp detail without compromising quality.

The 8MP ultra-wide camera allows users to fit more into the frame, enhancing landscape and group photography. The ultra-wide lens also maintains strong colour accuracy and detail, allowing for creative compositions in both outdoor and indoor settings.

A unique selling point is the industry’s first underwater photography mode, allowing users to take photos and videos up to 2 metres underwater for up to 30 minutes. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which also works underwater, enhances usability, enabling users to control the camera in wet conditions.

Other AI-powered features, such as AI Snap Mode for capturing moving subjects and AI Motion Deblur for enhancing clarity, ensure that every shot is sharp and vibrant. These features collectively make the GT 7 Pro a powerhouse for photography enthusiasts.

Software

Running on Android 15, the GT 7 Pro introduces the realme UI 6.0, bringing an intuitive and user-friendly interface that integrates seamlessly with the device’s hardware. One of the best features that I have to highlight is definitely the O+ connect feature, which enables quick file sharing with iPhones, finally freeing you from the frustration of Airdrop, but note that iPhone correspondents would need to download the app separately.

Other than the few AI features under the camera, there are several more aimed at enhancing both productivity and entertainment. The AI Sketch to Image feature, for instance, allows users to transform rough sketches into detailed pictures, making it a useful tool for creatives.

For gamers, AI Gaming Super Resolution and AI Gaming Super Frame bring games up to 1.5K resolution and 120 FPS, respectively, delivering an unparalleled gaming experience. Overall, realme UI 6.0 feels refined, feature-rich, and aligned with the high-performance nature of the GT 7 Pro.

Verdict

The realme GT 7 Pro is an exceptional flagship that pushes the boundaries of what an Android smartphone can offer. Its standout performance, courtesy of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, is complemented by a top-tier display, robust battery, innovative cooling system, and versatile camera setup. Each feature feels thoughtfully integrated, enhancing the user experience across the board, making the GT 7 Pro not just a normal smartphone but an exceptional experience.

For Malaysian users seeking a premium device that combines power, durability, and innovation, the realme GT 7 Pro is a fantastic choice. With a price tag of RM 3,699, it is definitely the true flagship contender.
