From early point-and-shoot cameras to modern multi-lens smartphones, digital imaging technology has evolved through continuous innovation. In 2024, hailed as the “Year of AI,” artificial intelligence has transformed mobile photography, simplifying memory capture while raising questions about authenticity and photography’s essence.
Zhe Qian, OPPO Imaging Product Manager, highlights this journey, noting how imaging has progressed from hours-long processes to instant captures. Emphasizing AI’s potential, Zhe views generative AI as a tool that empowers everyone to create and celebrate life’s beauty effortlessly.
Take the Reins: AI Puts Creative Control in Your Hands
Life’s happiest moments—festive seasons, vacations, and celebrations—deserve to be cherished, but older cameras often struggled to capture these memories effectively.
According to Zhe Qian, “OPPO understands its users’ desire for authentic photos that reflect their emotions and values, whether it’s a wedding, a music festival, or a family trip.”
The Reno13 Series aligns with this vision, particularly during events like Chinese New Year.
With its vibrant festivities and challenging low-light conditions, OPPO’s AI Night Portrait feature uses advanced algorithms to enhance lighting and clarity, ensuring stunning nighttime photography with ease.
For dynamic lighting, the Soft Light Portrait feature offers three tailored effects:
Glowy adds depth and cinematic mood, ideal for atmospheric shots.
Misty lends a romantic softness for timeless portraits.
Dreamy blends light and shadow, creating an airy and ethereal feel.
These features allow users to personalise images that mirror their emotions. For example, Glowy beautifully highlights golden reflections on water, while Misty enhances the intimacy of family portraits.
“At OPPO, portrait photography is more than just capturing isolated faces—it’s about giving meaningful context to the image by making subjects feel connected with their environment,” explains Zhe.
AI Brings Pro-Level Features to Everyone’s Fingertips
OPPO’s innovations extend beyond ease of use to bring professional-grade tools to all users. One standout feature of the Reno13 Series is its Underwater Photography Mode, supported by IP69 water resistance. Users can now capture vivid underwater photos and videos at depths of up to 2 meters for 30 minutes, all thanks to AI color calibration, which corrects underwater light distortion and color shifts.
“OPPO wants to make professional workflows simpler for experts and give everyday users the ability to achieve professional results,” Zhe says.
