Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Set to Feature in the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2025 in Thailand!

It has been confirmed that Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) will be the headline Esports event at the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand. The world's most popular mobile esports game, MLBB, will feature both men's and women's medal events at the 33rd SEA Games.

This marks the fourth consecutive time MLBB has been included as a medal sport in the biennial multi-sport event. MLBB also holds the record for being the most-watched esports event in SEA Games history across both categories. At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, the men's competition reached a peak of 1,462,871 concurrent viewers (PCV), while the women's competition achieved 1,367,274 PCV, according to Esports Charts.

The 33rd SEA Games will take place from 9 to 20 December, 2025 with Bangkok Metropolitan Region, Chonburi, and Songkhla as their main host cities. The Games will feature participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor, and Vietnam.

Ray Ng, the Head of Esports Ecosystem at MOONTON Games highlighted that MLBB's success was due to the idea of creating an accessible and inclusive esports ecosystem and that international events have now recognised a platform for Esports players. The inclusion of MLBB as a medal event reflects the growing acceptance of esports as a competitive sport both in Thailand and globally.

MOONTON Games, the developer and publisher of MLBB, has partnered with the Thailand E-Sports Federation (TESF) to create economic and tourism opportunities for Thailand. The collaboration will focus on marketing, player development, community engagement, and sharing insights and analytics.

Ray further added that the inclusion of MLBB as a medalled sport in the 33rd SEA Games marks as a major milestone for Thailand, reflecting the growth in both the number and skill level of local players, particularly women. Furthermore, he also stated that he was delighted about partnering with TESF to create more opportunities for Thailand's thriving esports community, building on initiatives like the Asian Esports Games (AEG) in Bangkok later this year.

Santi Lothong, President of TESF stated that Thailand is a leading market for games and esports in Southeast Asia, with significant potential for further growth. Cooperation with game companies, like MOONTON Games, is key to creating opportunities for aspiring talents to represent their countries internationally.

The 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia featured both men's and women's tournaments. The Philippines beat eight other teams to win gold in the men's tournament, while Indonesia outplayed five other teams to win gold in the women's tournament. The women's tournament remains the most-watched women's esports event of all time, according to Esports Charts.
