HONOR X9c 5G In-Depth Review: The All-New King of Durability!

HONOR has just officially launched a new addition to their Honor X Series, the HONOR X9c 5G in Malaysia! This new device isn’t just any regular phone, it’s the new King of Durability as it comes with many new enhanced durability features alongside other fascinating features such as its camera and even performance.

In this review, we’ll be taking a deeper look into the HONOR X9c 5G, discussing the device’s design, display, camera, performance and its durability in order to showcase why the phone is best suited even for the clumsiest of individuals!

Design

The HONOR X9c 5G is beautifully crafted with a focus of combining both design and performance in a single device. The smartphone comes in three different colour variants for people to choose from, the Titanium Purple, Titanium Black and Jade Cyan.

The HONOR X9c 5G boasts an ultra-slim and lightweight design, coming with dimensions of 162.8 x 75.5 x 7.98mm and a weight of around 189g. Furthermore, with thin bezels surrounding the screen paired with the phone’s curved design, it helps make the device feel more comfortable to hold onto.

Display

The HONOR X9c 5G features a 6.78-inch, Curved OLED Display with an decent screen resolution of 1.5k (2700x1224) paired together with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a pixel density of 437PPI, users will be able to enjoy an immersive viewing experience, whether to play your favourite mobile games or even watching YouTube videos.

Furthermore, the device also comes with an incredible peak brightness of 4000 nits which ensures that users will be able to have a pleasant viewing experience in any lighting condition, whether indoors or outdoors. Also, with a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, you’ll be able to experience vivid and lifelike colours on your screen.

Additionally, the HONOR X9c 5G also ensures that your eyes will be protected even when using the device as it comes with various eye-comfort features which includes a 3840 Hz PWM Dimming which helps to eliminate risks relating to viewing displays. Besides that, it also comes with an AI feature which helps provide a more comforting visual experience, such as AI Circadian and Dynamic Dimming Technology.

Durability

In addition to its design and display, the highlight of the HONOR X9c 5G would be its enhanced durability. Dubbed as the “new King of Durability”, the X9c 5G has surpassed the benchmark that was set by its predecessor, the HONOR X9b 5G and provides “Ultra tough Triple Defences to ensure the safety of your phone from clumsiness and the unpredictable weather.

The X9c 5G features Anti-drop 3.0 technology paired together with the industry’s first Fully Wrapped Curved Screen Protection Layer and Cushioning Airbag Protective Case, which ensures that the screen wouldn’t crack even when dropped from heights of up to 2 metres even on hard surfaces such as marble or cobblestone. Besides that, the latest addition to the HONOR X-Series also comes with scratch resistance, which ensures that the device will be more resilient against everyday wear and tear.

Asides from that, the phone also comes with an IP65M rating for Dust and Water Resistance which ensures that dust and water sprays from entering the device. This can be further showcased as the X9c 5G also comes with a three-layer waterproof structure which ensures that it comes with a 360-degree resistance against water exposure. With this, the phone is not only able to withstand water splashes, but it can also function even after being submerged in 25-cm-depth-water for up to 5 minutes in total. Thus, even when you’re caught in a drizzle or the phone is dropped into a hotpot bowl, you will have nothing to worry about.

Supporting this, the X9c 5G also supports Wet Hand Touch Control, meaning that even if the device gets hit by water, it would not carry out any unintended touch action.

To honour the device’s enhanced durability, the X9c 5G was recently awarded the industry’s first SGS 5-star Comprehensive Reliability Certification which emphasises HONOR’s continuous efforts in breaking the limits on smartphone durability.

Triple Assurance Program

HONOR has also introduced a unique and the industry’s first ever Triple Assurance Program for the benefit of their users. Similarly to the X9b 5G, if the front or back of the X9c 5G gets cracked, you will be able to get a free replacement for the damaged part within the first year as part of the 365-Day Front and Back Crack Replacement assurance. Furthermore, the latest addition to the HONOR X Series also includes two further assurances for their users. The first is a 180-day One-to-One Replacement, where if there are any hardware issues within the first 180 days, users will be able to trade in for a new device. Though this assurance is only available for units purchased before the 16th of December 2024. Meanwhile, the second is a 36 Months Battery Assurance where HONOR will provide a new battery for users if their current battery for the X9c 5G ever slows down by 80%.

Performance

The HONOR X9c 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and comes with 24GB of RAM which consists of 12GB + 12GB HONOR Turbo RAM paired with up to 512GB of storage. Furthermore, the smartphone is also paired with a Qualcomm Adreno 710 GPU, which ensures that the device will be able to handle some AAA mobile games.

Game Test

Wuthering Waves

Testing the phone’s gaming capabilities, I tested it out by playing Wuthering Waves, a game known for its many lag and visual issues. Though, when playing the game on the X9c 5G, even after setting the game to the highest graphics quality and resolution, the game was able to run smoothly and without much issues. Furthermore, even after playing the game for an hour in performance mode, the game only consumed 15%, which is an impressive feat.

Camera

As for its camera, the X9c 5G features a 108MP Super Sensing Camera paired with an Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), which makes it an exceptional device for photography lovers as it reduces blurriness and shakiness in order to capture stunning pictures regardless of the lighting. This addition also marks the debut of a 108MP Super Sensing Camera with OIS in the HONOR X Series.

In addition, the HONOR X9c 5G also features a variety of different shooting modes for many different situations. For example, Night Mode is one of the modes that is featured. With this, you’ll be able to capture splendid pictures even at night.

Furthermore, the main camera for the X9c 5G also supports 3x Lossless Zoom, which will allow you to zoom in on a subject up to three times without dealing with any loss in image quality, with also three different distinct portrait modes.

Battery

The HONOR X9c 5G also impresses with its battery life, as it is the industry’s first smartphone with an ultra-large 6600mAh Silicon-carbon battery, fitting into its slim design. This large battery ensures that the phone will be able to last up to 48 hours of music streaming and 25.8 hours of online video playback.

Furthermore, it comes with an AI Super Power Saving Mode, which activates when the phone drops down to 2% battery life. With this, users will be able to make up to 58 minutes of continuous calls even despite the low-power.

To test out the phone’s battery life, I decided to watch YouTube videos at 1440p for a whole hour, and 6% of the battery life was consumed during that time, even while playing the video at an average volume throughout the hour.

To complement the device’s large battery life would be its 66W HONOR SuperCharge which will help recharge your phone back to full power so that you may return to carry out your tasks.

In 5 minutes, the phone was only able to charge up to 2% and it reached 17% in 15 minutes. Overall, it took an hour and 13 minutes for the phone to recharge all the way back to 100%, and considering its large battery, the time it took to recharge is still reasonable.

AI Features

For the first time in the HONOR X Series, HONOR has included their MagicOS AI features into the X9c 5G, with several new features to provide numerous benefits in order to enhance your overall experience when using the phone.

AI Eraser

With the AI Eraser feature, users will be able to erase any unwanted people or objects from the picture that you have just taken and remove them from the image and when removing them, AI will also perfectly restore the background. Thus, ensuring that your picture will remain social-media worthy.

AI Motion Sensing

Another AI feature that would benefit photography lovers would be the AI Motion Sensing feature. Even when something is in motion, whether it’s animals or vehicles, you’ll be able to snap wonderful pictures with this camera feature.

Magic Capsule

With the Magic Capsule feature, certain applications will be able to run in the background even while you’re working on other tasks. For example, if you’re listening to music or recording audio, the Magic Capsule will display the status in real time and you could access it straight away instead of accessing it through the app.

Magic Portal

With the Magic Portal feature, you’ll be able to access your files much quicker, even if you’re on another app. Furthermore, you’ll also be able to extract both text and images and drag it to different apps, opening it up instantly. This feature is extremely handy especially if you’re in a rush and need to cross through different applications in a matter of seconds.

Parallel Space

The final AI feature that the X9c 5G comes with is Parallel Space, a space where you would be able to store all your important documents, files or even personal applications inside, to prevent anyone from seeing them.

Verdict

In conclusion, the HONOR X9c 5G is definitely a phone that should be considered by many. Not only does it come with a wide range of fascinating features that you have accessed, but even the clumsiest of individuals no longer have to worry about damaging their phones when dropping it. Thus, be sure to get the King of Durability now, especially with its affordable price of RM 1,499 while the 512GB model is available at RM 1,699!
