HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact Version 5.5, "Day of the Flame's Return," will launch on March 26. Players will explore Natlan’s southwestern region, encountering the Collective of Plenty tribe and the Great Volcano of Tollan on their path to the sacred city. The update introduces new playable characters, Varesa and Iansan, along with a Saurian companion, the Tatankasaurus, enhancing both combat and exploration.

The Great Volcano of Tollan, once a sacred mountain, is now open for exploration, hiding traces of its ancient history and a slumbering city built by the Dragonborn. Players can access the Sacred City of Tollan through a special method to uncover the mystery of the Flamelord’s Blessing and their Little One.

On the journey, players will encounter the Collective of Plenty, a tribe known for their strength and fitness challenges, thriving on the fertile volcanic soil that produces exceptionally sweet fruits. However, the volcano occasionally erupts, sending falling rocks across the land.

In these moments, players can transform into the Tatankasaurus, a new Saurian companion, to break Pulverite and dash across water or liquid Phlogiston. This scorching land is home to new Saurians and skilled warriors, including Varesa and Iansan, who can sprint and leap across Natlan’s terrain as they navigate this fiery landscape.

Varesa is a 5-star Electro Catalyst user who uses Plunging Attacks to trigger her Fiery Passion state. While in this state, she deals more Electro DMG, and can access a special Elemental Burst with reduced Energy cost. To quickly enter this state, Varesa can tap her Elemental Skill, then follow up with Normal Attacks to perform swift Plunging Attacks. Additionally, her unique talent helps restore Phlogiston after the party consumes food. As her Tribal Chronicle will reveal, Varesa is only fierce in battle, and leads a daily life almost far too laid-back.
Varesa:

Iansan:

Iansan, a 4-star Electro Polearm wielder and one of Natlan's six heroes, serves as Varesa’s coach and a strong support character. She boosts the on-field character’s ATK, provides healing, and enhances ATK even when off-field, with buffs that scale based on teammates’ movement distance. When a Nightsoul Burst is triggered, she gains the Warming Up effect, enabling continuous HP restoration for a short duration. Iansan and Varesa will debut in Version 5.5's first Event Wish phase alongside Xianyun’s rerun, followed by Xilonen and Venti reruns.
After a long hiatus, Natlan's traditional Bloomflower Trials will be making a return. Players will team up with Mavuika, Ifa, and their other Natlan allies to participate in this unique event, and save a brave Saurian afflicted by a rare illness. Moreover, in the "Saurian Treasure Seeker" mini-game, players can also assist a group of baby Saurians in their quest to overcome obstacles and collect shiny treasures. By taking part in the event, players will have the opportunity to invite Ororon for free.

Version 5.5 also introduces new challenges and system optimizations. A new boss, the Lava Dragon Statue, awaits in the geothermal fissures of the volcano. As for optimizations, the Artifact leveling experience will be enhanced, as upgrading Artifacts defined with Sanctifying Elixirs guarantees at least two upgrades to the defined Minor Affixes.

Genshin Impact Version 5.5 arrives with its volcanic lands on March 26. With cross-progression and Co-Op functions, players can enjoy their adventure across PlayStation®, Xbox, PC, Android, and iOS. The game has been rated T for Teen by ESRB on PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC, and Google Play, and 12+ on iOS.
