Final Fantasy XIV Expands Free Trial

Cheapskate ol' me gets even more content now!

Square Enix is giving the community a great gift - they are expanding Final Fantasy XIV's (the popular MMORPG) free trial to include more content. This means that a majority of the content, including expansions, will be available for free-to-play players up to the new level cap of 60.

Previously set to only 35, free-to-play players are now able to increase their characters' levels to 60, which will allow them to also play through the story content through Heavensward, as well as some expansions leading up to Episode 3.56. This includes jobs and playable Au Ra in Heavensward. Square Enix will also be updating A Realm Reborn and the Starter Edition owners' game content to include this free trial expansion as well.

There are still some limitations, however. Free-to-play players will not be able to join Free Companies, form parties, or use the Auction House - these activities are still reserved for paying customers. There's still nearly 100 hours worth of free content after this expansion, though, so I don't think anyone is complaining. Sadly, the game is still not officially supported in Southeast Asia, so we have yet to experience the beautiful game that is FFXIV.
